Private Equity Firms Raise Record Funds in 2006

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Private Equity firms raised a record $215 billion in 2006, according to a report published by Dow Jones Equity Analyst.

322 funds made up the record year, which surpassed the previous record in 2000 by 22 percent.  It was also 33% more capital raised than in 2005.

Notably, only eight buyout funds were responsible for 34% of the total $215 billion.  The largest funds were raised by Bain Capital, First Reserve Corp, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Texas Pacific Group.
